Arupa Lahiry, is a Bharatnatyam dancer from Kolkata, whose search for excellence in her art took her to the legendary dancer-guru Smt. Chitra Visweswaran in Chidambaram Academy of Performing Arts, Chennai. A Senior Scholarship from the Department of Culture, Government of India further enabled her to do so. A soloist of reckon, she has gone on to prove her mettle in conducting workshops and performing at major festivals and sabhas, nationally and internationally, which include names like Musee Guimet, Centre Mandapa, Opera de Lille, France; Living Arts Centre, Toronto; Temple of Fine Arts & ICCR, Malaysia, Khajuraho Mahotsav and Soorya Festival, India etc. Arupa has recently completed a successful tour of the UAE countries under the aegis of Soorya. She is part of the young artist list of SPICMACAY, a Graded (Bharatnatyam) artist of Delhi Doordarshan, empanelled with ICCR and recipient of “Sringar Mani” title from Mumbai.She is awarded Junior Fellowship from the Ministry of Culture, Government of India to work on changing dimensions in Bharatanatyam.
