Sanjeeva Pandey

Throughout his career within the Himachal Pradesh Forest Department, spanning over 30 years, Sanjeeva Pandey has maintained an abiding passion for the Himalayas, especially for conservation of the Himalayan environment. In addition to his professional interests and activities, he is an experienced public speaker/lecturer at conferences in India and abroad (USA, Europe, South America, Australia). He has developed media outreach and education programs for the Great Himalayan National Park. His book “Great Himalayan National Park: Struggle to Save Western Himalayan Biodiversity” is a comment on immediate requirement of a global effort to improve the environmental health. He feels that the forest ecosystems need to be conserved by the governmental, non-governmental, and community organisations. Relations between forests and wildlife and communities need to be very engaging; the natural resource bureaucracies are to be transformed to involve women and the poor in conservation; and local livelihoods are to be strengthened in relation to forest and wildlife management. He has spent about 20 years of his forest service in the Great Himalayan National Park and Shimla with very meaningful involvement of his wife and two sons.
